While snuggling with Jason:

ME: Mmmm. You smell good ... for a change.

JASON: You still don't.

I love starting new blogs

I've been 10 kinds of domestic ever since I became vegan -- cooking, baking, creating elaborate TV show-themed cakes. I might even vacuum one of these days.

And I've been documenting it all on my new blog.

Here's a little teaser.

Roasted veggies

Mint chocolate cupcake

Chickpea & stars soup

'Lost' cake

Chai latte mini cupcakes

Tempeh wingz

Photo challenge: Shoot into the sun

This weekend found me in Amboy, Calif., a onetime bustling stop on Route 66. Now it's a tiny town with a population of five, and it's one of my favorite places on earth.

In Amboy, you can find a huge field of glass bottles that glitter like gemstones:

In Amboy, there's a random tree in the middle of the desert that is filled with shoes:

In Amboy, you can hike to the center of a 10,000 year old volcano:

And then you leave Amboy, driving a zillion miles an hour on empty desert roads, past fields of salt that reflect the colors of the sunset:

Let him eat cake

I'm making a "Lost"-themed cake for Jason's birthday.

It's his favorite show, and I'v never seen it before, so this should be interesting.

The only thing is that I'm a total noob when it comes to cake-decorating skillz. I don't know how to make a tiny Hurley or a polar bear or a smoke monster or even palm trees. I've been wandering the baking and candy aisles of all the local grocery stores, looking for inspiration and finding nothing.

Any ideas?

Oh, and it all has to be vegan.

I'm thinking that I should sculpt the characters out of clay and just stick 'em on the cake, because I don't know enough about marzipan to work with it. As for the island, I guess I'll just use green and brown icing. And if I make a really fluffy frosting, I might be able to make ocean waves.

"Down there"

I had a well woman exam yesterday with a new doctor.

It really doesn't inspire a lot of confidence when your gynecologist keeps referring to that part of the body as "down there."
