Happy 3-Year Anniversary!

You know how there's that stereotype about girls being hypersensitive and anal about celebrating every anniversary?

Well, that's not me.

The other day Jason and I were curled up together on the couch, and I said, "Hey, don't we have an anniversary this month? Or next month? Or sometime?"

"Uh ... yeah. We do, now that you mention it."

"When is it?"

"I know when it is."

"No, you don't! If you knew when it was you would have remembered it," I said, poking him in the ribs.

"No, I remembered. And then I forgot. And now I remember again. It's Sept. 20."

"Oh. Happy anniversary!"

I love being with Jason, I really do. I was just talking about this the other day with some people, as we were discussing what we see in our significant other.

I said that when a lot of people meet Jason, they come away saying that he's the nicest person they've ever met. And it's true.

He's a pure soul, someone who always has the best of intentions. He's genuine and sincere; there's no facade. He is 100 percent really, truly NICE. And that sounds kind of schmucky, until you think about the last time you met someone who was truly nice -- it's not as often as you might think.

Jason doesn't say mean things about others, he finds the best in people, he's positive. He holds doors open, he scoots in your chair, he's the guy who will walk all the way back across the grocery store to replace an item on the shelf where it belongs. If he only has $5 in the bank, he will happily give it to you.

He's good at math and comes in handy when I'm trying to figure out the sale price of shoes. He's a pro at rolling sushi. And he's so friendly, he could make friends with an onion.

He treats me with respect and kindness, and he has the patience of Buddha. I don't know how he puts up with me and my tantrums over lost shoes or burnt food or equally silly things. He has a wonderful ability to calm me down and/or make me stop crying, even when I'm hysterical.

We've navigated a lot of shit together, and even through everything, he's so happy and optimistic about the world. I'm a generally glass-half-empty person who wears a lot of black, and I don't see how he can always maintain a cheerful outlook on life. He's incredible.

We balance each other out really well. When I'm dancing on the bar, he's the designated driver. When I entertain, he's quietly cleaning up the kitchen or chopping food for a dish. When I'm telling a joke or a story, he never tries to steal my spotlight.

And that's not to say that he's introverted, because he's not. He's just more laid-back, a little more low-key. He does get crazy sometimes, but he has to really be in his element and feel comfortable.

Most importantly, at the end of the day, Jason never fails to make me smile.

He loves me completely, and I'm so happy that we managed to find each other.

Happy anniversary, baby.

Congrats on 3 years! I'm glad that you are happy and have found love. You really deserve it. Years ago when we hung out you always made things fun and a little more exciting. I'm glad that you have found someone that balances you and loves you for YOU! You really deserve that. Sounds like Jason is a KEEPER - but you know this already ;)

Hope the next 3, or 30, are just as happy.

Dear Maggie, you don't know me but I met Jason and his brother Kevin when I was living in Indianapolis a long time ago. (2000 I think) And you are so right about him. I am so glad he found you, you sound like a keeper yourself. I hope to meet you some day. Please send him my regards.

Sincerely,
